Here are today’s Ottawa Sun letters to the editor.
BUTTS SHOWS THEIR TRUE COLOURS
Justin Trudeau’s close friend Gerald Butts tweeted out a “joke” map of the U.S. that was insulting, derogatory and borderline racist. He eventually deleted the tweet and apologized, but it was a glaring illustration of how the Liberals feel about the U.S.
The map replaced proper names of various states with labels like, “Redneck Vancouver,” “Scared Rednecks,” “Brown Backistan,” “Basically Christian Iraq,” “Redneck Germany” and “Drunk Drivers.”
The level of immaturity of Trudeau’s former principal secretary is overwhelming. I find Trudeau is not young, just immature like his friend Butts.
EXTREMIST IDEOLOGY TAKEOVER
If colleges and universities were truly honest about achieving diversity, they would include more Conservatives like Margaret Wente.
Instead, they try to fool others by claiming to want “all different colours of the rainbow,” but only if such different colours match their same ideology, i.e. think like them, which is excluding more and more people because to match their ideology means matching an ideology that is becoming more and more extremist.
BTW, don’t expect Doug Ford and other Conservatives in power to stand up to them and be fiscally conservative by eliminating funding to most of these limited employment Liberals Arts programs that make universities and colleges left-wing extremist. They don’t have the guts of Donald Trump to be politically incorrect and take them on, even if it means putting up with demonstrations and the usual Liberal Arts professor guest spot condemning them in the mainstream media.
(That’s one way to see it.)
PROOF BEFORE POINTING FINGERS
I have plenty of sympathy for all the individuals who have and still are forced to face racism and bigotry.
However, especially as seen with the recent NASCAR Bubba Wallace incident, I think it is prudent to have at least a minimum of proof before spreading a story that in the end was false and affected so many.
I have the same concern with the lefty media and their faithful followers stating, without explanation, that we have systemic racism in our police forces. I am not certain how they define the word “systemic” and would love an interpretation. The RCMP commissioner was basically forced to change her story, by her Liberal boss, Minister of Public Safety Bill Blair, from her apparently true beliefs regarding racism to the beliefs of the politically correct.
I believe the vast majority of our police officers are in no way racist or bigots and should not be automatically included with the few bad officers who by their actions don’t seem to know better.
(The vast majority are upstanding citizens.)
ACCURATE, INCLUSIVE HISTORY
Re: That it for history? Letter, June 25
To the letter writer: There is no need to worry when history classes will be removed from education. Nor any reason to fear there will be a new reason to change the world’s past. One cannot change the world’s past.
What many people are seeking is simply to ensure history is not only preserved, but is also accurate and inclusive of all peoples’ history. The history of Indigenous and Black peoples in the Americas has essentially been ignored or belittled. First Nations peoples welcomed and helped the colonists survive in this land. We fought among you in the War of 1812, when the Americans sought to invade these lands. We fought alongside your people in every world war, even when your government refused to recognize us as people with rights.
We are not looking to change the world’s past or remove history. We are only seeking to say recognize and honour, too, the contributions Indigenous peoples and Black peoples have made.
I agree with the letter writer. We are all human beings and deserve each other’s respect. And recognition.
