A 51-year-old Val-des-Monts man appeared in court in Gatineau Monday after the RCMP seized a total of 18 firearms, including an assault rifle and a Thompson sub-machine gun, and four silencers.
A few thousand dollars in counterfeit U.S. cash and what’s believed to be cocaine were also seized in searches of the man’s home and a second residence in Gatineau Wednesday by the RCMP’s airport and federal investigations detachment with the help of Gatineau and MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais police.

The man will remain in custody pending his next court appearance on charges including possessing and importing prohibited devices and possession of counterfeit currency.
Investigators were continuing to analyze evidence gathered in the searches, the RCMP said.
