The smiling face of the bright red Big Apple along Highway 401 in eastern Ontario is covered up, sending an important message.
The Big Apple, in Colborne, Ont. is now wearing a yellow face mask.
The apple can be seen from the busy highway between Toronto and Ottawa.
General Manager of the Big Apple restaurant and gift shop Syliva Nagy tells CTV News the mask was put on the apple Thursday to show appreciation for front-line workers. The words “The Big Apple” were added to the mask on Friday.
“Social distancing is the key these days so why not make Mr. Apple Head, that’s what we call him, obey the rules and wear a mask?” Nagy said.
Visitors are required to wear masks at the tourist location.
