Damage was limited to an unoccupied unit, but a woman in her 80s was transported to hospital following a fire in a residential building on McArthur Avenue in central-east Ottawa on Saturday evening.
Ottawa Fire Services said multiple 911 calls reported a fire in the four-storey, 32-unit residential low-rise building at 7:45 p.m. Arriving firefighters confirmed smoke in the building’s lobby.

The interior fire in the unoccupied unit was under control by just after 8 p.m. It did not extend to other units, the fire service added.
The woman in her 80s was assessed by paramedics and taken to hospital, Ottawa Fire said. No further details on her condition were immediately available.
An Ottawa Fire Investigator was dispatched to the scene to determine the cause of the blaze.
