While the event can be watched for free, attendees are asked to make a donation or participate in an online auction. Proceeds will benefit Music and Beyond’s young people’s initiatives including programming for young people at its summer festival, and events such as the Ottawa Family Music Expo.
Attendees can also order dinner at home from one of the event’s partner restaurants. Armour said Beckta, Gezellig, Play and NeXT are partnering with his event, and he hopes another eight restaurants will also sign on.
People can also show support for the restaurant industry by purchasing a gift certificate to any Ottawa-area restaurant and donating it to the auction. Donors will receive a tax receipt for the full value of the certificates.
“We all want to make sure that when this COVID-19 disaster is finally over, the restaurants we love will still be around for us to enjoy,” Armour said.
A concurrent Zoom meeting will allow attendees to chat with one another. The event is also encouraging people to send videos and photos that will be shared on Music and Beyond’s social media.
