Ottawa Fire Services reported firefighter injuries “that are non-critical in nature” after battling a blaze in Sandy Hill on Saturday evening.
Multiple 911 calls reported smoke coming from the roof of the unoccupied residential building on Besserer Street, near Nelson, at 6:43 p.m.
Fire crews arriving at the scene saw heavy smoke from a second-floor window of the multi-unit building and made their way to the third floor, where they applied agent to what a media release called “fire conditions.”
Despite a hazard from active hydro connections, the fire was declared under control at 8:14 p.m., though firefighters remained on the scene past that time.
An investigator was assigned to determine the cause of the blaze.
