The provincial government backed off on its order shutting down playground equipment, but as of 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, you’ll need to wear a mask if you are within five metres of slides, swings and sandboxes.
The special order from Medical Officer of Health Dr. Vera Etches will not apply to children under two or to anyone who is under age five, either chronologically or developmentally, who refuses to wear a mask or can’t be persuaded to wear one by their caregiver. The order applies to playground equipment such as swings, slides, sandboxes, climbers and play structures.

The city has also closed some of its recreational amenities such as sports fields, ball diamonds, skateboard and bike parks, along with basketball, tennis and pickleball courts.
Parks remain open for runners, walkers and cyclists, but the two-metre distance must be maintained unless the person is a member of the same household. Benches and off-leash dog parks are also open, with the same distancing rules except for members of the same household.
The provincial stay-at-home order prohibits outdoor gatherings of people from different households although those who live alone are allowed to join one other household.
