Once again, there will no bagpipes and tossing heavy and unwieldy objects this summer in Maxville. The Glengarry Highland Games have been cancelled for the second time.
With COVID-19 vaccines being rolled out and infection numbers going down last fall, organizers were hoping to see a return of the Games, which have been held in Maxville east of Ottawa since 1948.

“I never thought we would have to make this decision two years in a row, but we do not have a choice. After much discussion, all are in agreement that this year’s 2021 Games are not going to happen,” Games president Eric Metcalfe said in a statement.
Meanwhile, organizers are developing ideas so the Games can be celebrated this summer in some fashion.
The Games are typically held the first weekend in August. However, organizers have identified July 29 and 30 for the 2022 dates.
