Police credited an alert neighbour for helping them intercept a stolen SUV in Kanata and arrest four suspects from Laval and Montreal.
The resident called police at about 3:30 a.m. Monday to report a man trying to break into his neighbour’s Toyota Highlander, the Ottawa Police Service said in a release.

One of the officers heading to the scene noticed a vehicle matching the description driving away from the address and tried to pull it over. The driver didn’t stop and there was a short pursuit before the driver came to a sudden stop in the middle of the road and fled on foot, police said.
Patrol officers, with the help of a canine unit, searched the area and intercepted a second vehicle with the suspect in the back hatch, police said.
The other occupants were arrested without incident.
Two Laval, Que., men, aged 21 and 23, and an 18-year-old and a youth, both from Montreal, face a string of charges.
The youth was released with conditions while the three adults were scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
Owners who notice new or fresh damage to the driver’s side door handle or see someone taking photos of their dashboard vehicle identification number were asked to report it to police.
