Gatineau firefighters worked for hours Thursday afternoon to extinguish a major fire at a construction materials sorting centre in the city’s east end.
Firefighters were called to the Forget sorting centre at 33 Dumouchel St. shortly after 1 p.m. Dense smoke was already visible.

Eventually, there were 56 firefighters and 23 fire trucks on the scene.
The fire was declared under control at about 8:30 p.m.
There were no injuries and preliminary damage estimates were $250,000.
A fire investigator has been assigned to the case.
