As Ottawa heads into its first weekend under the Red (Control) level of provincial restrictions, the city’s by-law officers will focus their enforcement efforts on upholding the temporary mandatory masking by-law along with other provincial orders.
Ottawa was elevated to the Red level of the provincial framework as of Friday. It had been operating at the Orange (Restrict) level since the Ontario-wide lockdown was lifted in late February.

“By-law & Regulatory Services remains committed to helping reduce the spread of COVID-19 to ensure the health and safety of our community by upholding the temporary mandatory mask by-law and (existing) provincial orders,” Christine Hartig, acting director of the city’s By-law and Regulatory Services, said in a statement Friday.
“BLRS will therefore continue to respond to requests for service and conduct proactive patrols to ensure compliance.”
Statistics for by-law violations, public complaints and calls for service will be available from the city next week.
