The city has been advised that the allegation is “sexual in nature.” It was made directly to the Children’s Aid Society, Donna Gray, the city’s general manager of community and social services, wrote in the memo.
The city has not been provided with further details, she said.
“The city is fully cooperating with both the Children’s Aid Society and the Ottawa Police Service on this matter and remains committed to ensuring the ongoing safety of children at the Centre,” Gray said.
“Communications have been provided to staff and family members today, which included a direct city contact for additional support. The City is also fulfilling its legislative duty by submitting a Serious Occurrence Report with the Ministry of Education.”
The Charmian Craven Child Care Centre is locate at 2071 Jasmine Cres. in Beacon Hill South. It was first licensed in 1979.
Licensed child care centres are licensed by the Ministry of Education and must meet specific provincial standards for the health, safety and developmental needs of children. The City of Ottawa operates 10 such programs.
The city takes the abuse allegations very seriously, Gray wrote in the memo.
“We will await the results of the investigation and advise on further actions”
